'Get rhythm...

...When you get the blues'

Wise words from Johnny Cash

My Dove, My Lamb

"I remember evenings when my dad would sing
Hiding in the hallways, I am listening
Keeping still my body until it’s borne aloft
Her hair is soft her breath is soft and her name is soft
And gather me completely in her sighing hands
My dove my dove my lamb

Born with ocean thunder underneath our veins
Lonelier than cows left standing in the rain
Holy when our weight into the waves is tossed
Though ships get lost and fish get lost and names get lost
She will wait to greet me where it meets dry land
My dove my dove my lamb

So. Careful of that language some words are stones
They’ll lead you out from town and leave you all alone
Past the mirrored diamond mares that run all night
Where camptown ladies sing that song ‘aw come aw wry’
But lo they sing it sweetly so I’ll understand
My dove my dove my lamb

Though my sight be near and my way be long
Though the light I chase be disappeared by dawn
I have seen her standing on the roofs at night
I have seen her silver figure bathed and bright
And I have seen her sleeping in the cold white sand
My dove my dove my lamb
So even in these cities where she’s haunting me
Even when my weariness is wanting me
Even when my wickednesses want to breathe
Even in these dirty clubs counting 1-2-3
I will keep a singing til I no more can
My dove my dove my lamb

And later if I’m better I’ll be born again
I’ll pull my newborn body from the thorns and limbs
Finding with my fingers where they’ve torn the page
From some ancient book all gold and worn from age
And writ upon it neatly though in trembling hand
My dove my dove my lamb

Then later in the evening I hear trumpets ring
I stretch out in the dark and I am listening
Studying the sadness in your perfect limbs
Move them under mine until they learn to blendb
And I will keep repeating til they understand
My dove my dove my lamb"

This song is by Phosphorescent and it has to be from another world.

Sea Green, Sea Blue

"I miss winter just because I miss when I knew you best.
I miss the typewriter in the basement, I miss making your room a mess.
I miss not being misused. I miss it all so I guess I lose
Sea green, Sea blue..."

I met the most amazing person and I ruined it and I assumed that it would get easier every day but every day I miss him more and every day i realise that nobody comes close.

I miss him washing my dishes and waiting in his car for me after work and calling me 'nugget' when I say something stupid. I miss glimpsing the gaps in his teeth when he smiles and his arms creeping around me while I cook. I miss him turning up late at night with his drunken swagger and the smell of rum on his breath. I miss his chicken legs and the flat bone beneath his ribs that he hated me touching and I miss the creases around his eyes when he awakes. I miss the noises he makes in his sleep and I miss being late to work every morning because I couldn't ever leave him.

He met someone else, he says, and I can't imagine anyone who might deserve him more.
But I ruined it, all by myself.
And now I can only wait and hope that one day, like he said, it will be OK.

Pocketful of Money

"I can't say that you are pretty
that would make me a liar
but you turn my my legs to spaghetti
and set my heart on fire"

More Jens. This is the most amazing song ever. Yes it is.

Young Pilgrims

"Fate isn't what we're up against,
There's no design, your flaws are fine"

The Shins

Just lovely.

And I remember every kiss

"I swear I'll never kiss anyone/ Who doesn't burn me like the sun"
Jens Lekman.

We love Jens. Here's a little story for you...So I was seeing this pretty decent guy and all was rather lovely until I got very drunk and acted like a cock and he quite rightly decided I was a nutjob and ended it. I was gutted for quite a while, so as you do, went off and did the usual with one or two less interesting fellows, clearly knowing that it wasn't the most productive behaviour. Then me and aforementioned ex met up again a few months later having literally bumped into each other in the street and had the most immense day, which culminated in him kissing me to this humble tune. Probably made more sense in that moment than a song has ever done. It didn't work out due to me still being a nutjob deep down, but is a self-inflicted rule I've tried to abide by since (unfortunately with limited success, usually due to excessive cider intake) Did I mention thatt it's also the most frickin epic of songs. LISTEN TO JENS.

December

"December came faster than most and before we knew it, it was cold
and you turned to me as if to say that we should not have come this way.
You didn't ask a question, so I had no reply.
And we came upon a congregation and turned our faces to the constellation, singing
'we are both believers now' but still there was no voice in the clouds.
See the stars are not out conscience, they are just another light in our eyes, in our eyes.
They are just another light keeping us blind.
Long time I have left Umeah and long time travlled in your company,
but I see the road before us split, and I know that I should follow it.
But I know that I will find you, when the morning spreads it's breath across the night.
Find you, in the morning at the end of my life.
December's roads are long and they're tough and sometimes I get really tired and stuck
But I keep the thought that when I die
They will carry me and lay me by your side
They will carry me and lay me by your side.
And there amongst the dirt
At last, our roads again will merge."

This song is called 'the woods' and is by Emmy the Great. I have listened to it at least 1000 times and it still makes me want to cry, in a good way. The first time I heard it was last winter when I had moved home from uni and split up with my boyfriend of a very long time (by my standards anyway) and everything was very bleak. Everything is less bleak now but I'm still listening to it and it never seems to lose it's relevance. You should probably listen to it too because emmy really is great.
